What this site is
An independent guide to the ferry between Hirtshals in Denmark and Larvik in Norway. We are not Color Line, we are not a ferry operator, and we do not sell tickets ourselves. When you book, you do so through a partner, and you can read exactly what that means on our disclaimer page.
Why this site exists
Most travellers planning this crossing need more than the crossing time. They need to know whether Larvik is the right arrival port for their destination, what the fare will come to for their party and vehicle, and how to reach Hirtshals from where they are starting. This site sets out to answer those questions in one place, with sources.
Four editions, not four translations
The crossing is the same for everyone, but the journey to the port is not. A traveller driving from Hamburg, one coming from the Netherlands, one living in Denmark and one flying into Aalborg are planning different trips around the same 3 hrs 45 min at sea.
The site is therefore published as four separate editions, in English, German, Dutch and Danish. The facts about the ferry and the ports are the same in each. The routes, distances and driving times are written for each readership.
How the information is checked
- Operator facts come from the operator. Crossing time, ship specifications, check-in deadlines, terminal addresses and published fares are taken from Color Line’s own pages, and cited at the bottom of the page where they appear.
- Where sources disagree, we say so. Aggregator sites list SuperSpeed 2 at 2,325 passengers. Color Line says 1,929. We use the operator’s figure and tell you the discrepancy exists.
- Departure times change several times a year. Rather than publish a fixed table that goes out of date, we describe how the frequency varies by season and link to a live timetable for specific dates.
- Every substantial page carries the date it was last checked.
Independence
The site is funded by commission on bookings made through partner links, which never affects the price you pay. That funding does not decide what the pages say: the comparison page names the crossings that suit a trip better than this one. Full details are on the disclaimer page.
